EMDR

(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

So often, trauma plays a role in the recurring patterns that keep us feeling stuck.

This may mean major, single-incident trauma or complex trauma resulting from repeated experiences of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Whether a result of repeated experiences or a single event, trauma is stored in memory in a way that can inhibit the brain's natural ability to recover from distressing events.  Sometimes this natural recovery process can't be resolved without help. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma and is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain.

If you are struggling with major trauma or ongoing distress from a traumatic past, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a safe, highly effective, and evidence-based therapy that can help break old patterns and establish new ways of being. Used in combination with mindfulness and somatic awareness, EMDR is a powerful approach to healing. As a Certified EMDR therapist, I have witnessed time and again how it is possible to release the hold of a traumatic past and truly be present for the life and relationships you are seeking in the present.

EMDR can be both a stand-alone treatment, as well as an adjunct to ongoing talk therapy. During our initial consultation, we will discuss what options are the best approach to meet you where you are. For more about EMDR, click here for a video from the EMDR International Association.
